Research  // artistic practice as research

-----------------------------------------------

Research within Inner Music explores the relationship between auditory perception, inner imagery and bodily response — and how these experiences interact across different senses.

At its core is a simple question:

How does what we hear become what we imagine, feel and express?

Through cross-modal and multisensory perception, I explore the space between Sound + Image, tracing the movement from perception to expression.

Sound × Image

Hear & Draw explores the relationship between auditory perception, inner imagery, bodily response and visual expression.

Through artistic practice, it asks how what we hear can evoke images, sensations and movements — and how these inner experiences can be transformed into expression.

Artistic Research between Belgium and Japan

Beginning in October 2026, this research project brings together the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles and the Brain Research Institute at Niigata University, Japan.

The first phase of the project takes place in Niigata, where I will spend 18 days engaging in artistic and research activities with participants.

The research explores how visual stimulation, introduced alongside auditory perception, may influence subsequent artistic expression. Through Hear & Draw, participants will be invited to translate what they hear into visual expression, allowing the interaction between auditory perception, visual experience and artistic creation to be observed.

By comparing artistic practices carried out with and without visual stimuli, the project aims to make visible the differences in the resulting expressions, and to explore the relationship between perception, bodily response and artistic creation.
